What automatic advanced matching does
Advanced matching is the practice of sending a hashed identifier alongside a conversion so the platform can tie that conversion to somebody it has seen before. The automatic version does not wait for you to map fields. It reads identifiers users enter into forms on the site, hashes them client-side, and transmits them with the event.
Client-side hashing is the part that limits the exposure, since the raw value never leaves the browser. What it does not do is change the fact that a new category of data is being collected and sent, and that is a question your privacy policy answers rather than your pixel. The switch sits under Tools, then Conversions, then Data Source, then Edit pixel, and it is off only if somebody goes there.
The oCPC beta is the bigger product change
Conversion-optimized CPC lets a product-feed campaign stay click-billed while conversion prediction enters the ranking, with fixed or manual bidding under a positive conversion bid cap. Campaigns can be cloned from existing CPC versions, with the conversion event prefilled when a single eligible event is available, and they can be built in bulk.
The supporting pieces point the same direction. Dynamic URL macros for campaign, ad group, ad and account IDs are the plumbing an ad platform ships once advertisers start asking their analytics stack harder questions, and the Triple Whale and Hightouch integrations put the conversion signal on a server-side path. Pixel diagnostics now name the dropped field, the error type and a suggested fix.
What to do about it
If you run a ChatGPT Ads pixel, decide before the 17th
Two things to establish. Whether your privacy policy and consent banner already cover hashed identifiers collected from form fields and sent to an advertising platform, and whether the person who answers that question at your company knows this is scheduled. If either answer is no, switch the setting off under Tools, Conversions, Data Source, Edit pixel and revisit once the policy language is right.
Feed advertisers: ask about the oCPC beta
A feed campaign ranked partly on predicted conversions is a different instrument from one ranked on clicks, and the bid cap gives you a ceiling while you find out how different. If you already spend on ChatGPT product feeds, ask for beta access and run it beside an existing CPC campaign rather than replacing one.
