SEO Copywriting Content 2022

What Is SEO Content?

In order to learn what SEO Content is and how to do SEO copywriting, we need to address what SEO content actually is. Sometimes referred to as “copy,” SEO content refers to the text, usually in the form of sentences, bullet points, etc., people will see on the front end of your website. Effective SEO copywriting can balance between optimizing for search engines, mainly Google, while also engaging and encouraging action amongst your readers. These actions may include clicking other articles or purchasing a product or service.

1. Finding the Right Key Term

Which term you optimize for can make or break your traffic. This is where keyword research for SEO comes in. A key term with many searches is useless if it has to much optimized competition; likewise a key term is just as useless if it is easy to rank high because of low search volume. Learning what competitor analysis is and how to do it is the best way to ensure you are not falling into these traps.

2. Identify Proper Search Intent

Search Engines, especially Google, are adjusting their algorithms to provide results which more accurately match the intent of the searcher. So Let’s check out the different Types of SEO Content.

  • PRODUCT PAGES

    • These can be your best performing pages if done correctly. Beware of copy and pasting product descriptions from manufacturer catalogues. You will have the same content as everyone else, and Google will consider your product pages garbage. Well written and optimized product descriptions can allow the product pages to be used as both SEO content AND a landing page for your PPC campaigns.
  • Blogs

    • Blogging is one of the most common ways companies create SEO content. This is where you can really attract your backlinks to increase both your domain authority and page authority. Even within “Blogs” there are ceratain types of blog styles, which I will discuss below.
  • Glossary

    • When is the last time you used a dictionary? Exactly. Most people ask siri, or ask alexa, or type a word into the search engine to learn its meaning. Creating a glossary can help get your website pulled up when people are looking to understand terms related to your products and services.
  • Lists

    • Readers and shoppers are more likely to scan your content than actually read it, thus creating the perfect opportunity to create lists. Allow your readers to quickly and easy get the information they need, and it will build trust, which is after all, the biggest hurdle to overcome for any online business.

3. Mix It Up With Images, Bulleted or Numbered Lists, Infographics, Etc.

While search engines generally give the most “points” to key terms worked into text, you can make your content more engaging by using images and infographics. You can even use them as internal links and with image alt attributes, give them anchor text. Bulleted and Numbered lists are also great, not only for readers, but they are perfect for Google to use as knowledge graphs.

4. Avoid Keyword Stuffing

An old SEO strategy was to try to work in your target keywords as much as you can. This now will trigger your site as spammy to Google, so you want to make sure that you only use your target terms as much as it organically makes sense.

5. Implement Internal Links

Internal Links help crush your competition’s content. Here’s an article from seoMOZ regarding the importance of internal links and what they are. Internal Links are a way for users and web crawlers to navigate your site without having to use your navigation. You generally want to point to similar products or services that work with the current page.

6. Run Page Through Google Page Speed Insights

Google’s Page Experience Update is going to be the biggest search algorithm update we’ve seen in quite some time. Page speed, especially on mobile, has always been a ranking factor, but it seems it will make a larger impact than ever before. Make sure you don’t have any large image file sizes (the actual display of the image can be large), unnecessary plug ins, useless javascript code, and mode with Google’s Page Speed Insights tool.

7. Get A Technical SEO Audit Done

Onpage SEO refers to working the proper keyterms the right way in certain section on your site. A technical SEO site audit can show you if there are any issues with how search engines crawl and index your site.

Technical SEO Audits Show:

  • Broken Links
  • Duplicate or Empty Title Tags and Meta Descriptions
  • Redirect Loops
  • Broken Images
  • Image Without Alt Attributes
  • Much More!
